Gayonese is a one of ethnic group from Indonesia who live in the highland of Bukit Barisan, Aceh Region. Most of Gayonese live in Bener Meriah, Central Aceh and Gayo Lues. Gayonese named their village as gampong, is a small community with Gecik as their leader. Gayonese have traditionally been rice farmers, coffee farmers and traders.
As one of the largest in Asia, the coffee plantation in the highland sited above 1200 masl which has abundant and rich volcanic soil spread across 130,000-140,000 ha. Most of the plantations owned by family and small farmers unions. Many farmers plant types of coffee varieties Gayo 1 and Gayo 2. The two varieties has been awarded as national winners in 2010 based on the flavor notes, economic value and its resistance to main disease. With such amazing topography and beautiful culture entity, Kopi Gayo has been cultivated from its long history and resulting in distinctive flavor, light earthy with full body, mild in acidity and fruity caramel aftertaste.
